Algae essential oil is now essentially the most promising way to obtain alternative energy available.
However don’t just take our word for it — the world’s biggest power player agrees
ExxonMobil may be the Big Oil gamer that’s causing all of the fuss. This company has cast $600
million right into a research partnership to analyze the opportunity of algae essential oil. Now,
ExxonMobil can team up with human being genome specialist Craig Venter so that they can create
algae oil a far more viable energy source.

“There has been a lot hype and wish about the likelihood of algae this announcement should work as
a reality search for everyone,” Venter informed the Financial Times
Up till this point, the dirt oil industry was seldom mentioned in mainstream mass media sources. Yet
this remains one of the most viable alternatives in order to traditional fossil fuels.
The discussion is simple: Algae would be the fastest growing plant life on earth. And also algae
consume more co2 than every other plants. Because they grow, algae generate lipids, or veggie oil.
The math is actually greatly skewed in support of dirt. One acre associated with corn can yield
regarding 28 gallons of essential oil in one yr. In more exotic regions, an acre associated with palms
can yield regarding 6,700 gallons of essential oil per year. A acre of algae may yield between
20,000-100,000 gallons associated with oil for each year.

This tremendous possible exists due to a lightning-fast development cycle. An dirt plant can
completely multiply up to six occasions per day. And all know it requires corn all summertime in
order to mature.
Why Ethanol Does not Grow Any kind of Profits Oil is over the location. It’ll get smashed one day and bounce back to the $40s the following. Even
though the volatility within the oil market probably will not change whenever soon, thanks to a great
uncertain economy, there are some things distinctly various about the way we are going to reacting
to the return of cheap gas.

No, saving money movement won’t go away. Customers continue to require more earth-friendly
items. A sense urgency more than climate change and also OPEC’s stranglehold over the oil supply
proceeds. We continue to keep seek options. But substitute energy’s next wave must prove it could
sustain when the hype drops dead down.
Take ethanol. In the beginning glance, 2006 appeared as if a great yr to be in the particular ethanol
business. Stocks of Pacific Ethanol had been on fire, shattering the particular $20 mark at the end of
Walk. By May, stocks broke $40 Expenses Gates’ millions assisted jump-start the stock, and also new
government mandates basically ensured the prosperity of the particular corn-to-fuel company.
As time might soon tell, the springtime of 2006 turned out to be a lot of fun to market your ethanol
coop. Pacific Ethanol’s gentle is not shining very as brightly because it was previously. The share is
usually more than 98% away its 2006 high, and also Gates is steadily relaxing his stake within the
company.

Pacific continues to be plagued with issues recently. You can actually most recent yearly report is
chock-full associated with problems, including violations associated with some debt covenants as
well as other shenanigans concerning the company’s type of credit
But the larger problem is that you simply can’t offer ethanol over it expenses to really make it. You
might think that might kill this business away entirely. But because of inexplicable government
assistance and backward-thinking power legislation, ethanol production probably will continue
inspite of the tough lessons coming from learned
So the big issue remains – can somebody successfully develop a different energy source which will
can certainly make money?

Do the particular Math: tweny thousand > 28
When anyone looks in the numbers, just one particular alternative power source makes a great deal
of sense: dirt. One acre associated with corn gives you twenty-eight gallons of oil within a year. A
acre of algae may yield between 20,000-100,000 gallons associated with oil annually. No question
the updated 2007 Power Independence and Security Work supports extracting fuels through algae
While the algae energy field is not totally crowded, multiple players are usually developing,
harvesting and taking out systems that could a day be industry-standard styles. Inside 3 years, we
could visit a powerful new power industry.
Chevron and Layer have started going through the possibilities of dirt. There are several small
companies which are working on the particular technology
With the coming disruption to alternative fuels, earlier investors in algae essential oil stand to claim
several huge gains issue technology usually takes off. Potential Algae Dollar Plays
Of course, ExxonMobil’s brand new partnership does not always mean we are filling the tanks with
pond foam biodiesel at this time. Developers can still need to deal with genetic engineering and
essential oil extraction issues.
But ExxonMobil’s rebound into the algae essential oil market effectively legitimizes the. But since
should you have currently guessed, the budding dirt oil industry offers few public companies when
you can commit. However, there are some engaging names you’ve probably in no way heard of
Here are 3 algae penny plays you may want to view. Many of these stocks possess a market cap
below $2 million, a discuss price under ten cents, and is located on the Pink Bed sheets and
Over-the-Counter Bulletins Board:
o GreenShift Company (OTC: GERS)
o Nanoforce Inc (PINK: NNFC)
o PetroSun Inc (PINK: PSUD)

Several personal startups and partnerships are usually worth watching, too
We’ve pointed out Sapphire Energy just before. It’s scored greater than $100 million within private
financing – together with a chunk from Chute Investment, a holding firm owned by Expenses Gates
Then there’s Algenol Biological carbon fuel. This company offers partnered with Dow Chemical
substance on a project that will use algae as being a vehicle to reap CO2 regarding ethanol.
“The ethanol will be sold since fuel,” reported The newest You are able to Times, “But Dow’s
extensive interest is in utilizing it as an component for plastics, replacing propane. The procedure
also generates oxygen, which could be taken to burn fossil fuel in a engine power cleanly, said John
Woods, chief executive associated with Algenol, which is located in Linda Springs, Fla. The
particular exhaust from this kind of plant will be mostly carbon dioxide dioxide, which could become
reused to make much more algae”
The company’s target price are $1 a one gallon – incredibly cheap in contrast to corn-based ethanols.
The breakthrough like here could place the US on the path to power independence at breakneck
rates of speed. We’ll a person posted…

One of the most talked about renewable fuel sources in the past few years has been algae biofuels. With the world-wide efforts to attempt to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, algal biofuels have been showing potential on being able to scale for the quantities of production to inexpensively change our dependence on standard petroleum oil sources. Beyond the positive aspects of currently being renewable, algae biofuels have also shown that they are significantly much better for the environment through the reduced quantities of Carbon Dioxide released during their use. Bio-diesel from algae is one of the alternative fuel sources currently being explored for potential widespread usage. To comprehend this we must first answer the question of what’s bio-fuel?

What Makes Up a Biofuel?

Biofuels could be in numerous forms to including liquid, gas, or solid materials. Biofuels are generally made from any biological carbon-based substances, with corn and soy beans currently being the most common crops utilized for biodiesel production. Utilizing these crops demands the land normally used to develop food that we eat. As a result, the renewable fuels industry has been investing time and effort into refining the procedure to extract bio-fuel from algae as a third generation biofuel.
Algae Fuel Advantages

Algae will grow at 50 to a hundred times faster than corn or soy, and don’t require freshwater or soil to be developed. Algae could be grown in non potable water or suspended containers located exactly where the land can not be employed to develop food. The traditional barriers to effective use of algae as a biodiesel have been the relative low price of oil when compared to the cost of extracting the biofuel from algae, however, with enhanced technology and increased crude oil prices this gap has shrunk over the past couple of years.
When grown in closed photo bioreactor systems, the algae development process could be controlled leading to greater yields and improve biodiesel production. One more advantage with the algae growth process is the algae pulls carbon dioxide from the air and replaces it with oxygen. This makes biodiesel algae farms much more attractive to place near industrial plants that produce extreme amounts of co2 to help reduce pollution but also benefit the algae grower.
Algae biodiesel has the potential to substitute all crude oil world-wide. If algae farms can achieve their potential, then this could be done 100 million acres where it would take exponentially much more land to accomplish the same effect with conventional biofuel crops.

Extracting the oil from algae has been the major cost barrier to the growth of algae biodiesel into the mainstream. As soon as the algae are harvested, the oils are then extracted through the algae cells. Probably the most rudimentary method to do this is to use an oil press which is similar to how an palm oil press functions. The oil press has approximately a 75 percent extraction rate. Another method used to extract the oil is the hexane chemical extraction. This approach results in approximately a 95 percent extraction rate of the oil from the algae. The third method employed will be the supercritical fluids approach which can get as much as 100 percent of the algae oil out from the algae biomass. In this method, carbon dioxide is utilized to act as the supercritical fluid. The algal biomass is pressurized and heated to change it in to a liquid and gaseous state. Then, the CO2 is mixed with the algae which turns it almost totally into oil. This method demands a considerable investment in equipment and incurs considerable expense. Once the algae oil is extracted, it’s then processed using the transesterification method in which sodium hydroxide is combined with alcohol to produce biodiesel from algae.

Learn how to create your own renewable energy using algae today!

Considering the increasing fuel prices nowadays lots of people have begun to look for an new way to fuel their automobiles. Algal biofuel fits the bill for many individuals who started making this biofuel from algal biomass in their own biodiesel production areas.

And why not make your own personal algae biofuel, the raised fuel prices makes finding substitute fuel resources very important nowadays, especially with the recent oil spill in the gulf of mexico, people wish to save money and the natural environment now more than ever.

Algae biodiesel is a great way to save a substantial amount of cash on your diesel fuel costs. Not forgetting you can even save big on your heat cost if you live in cooler climates. The basic aspect of algae biodiesel is to transform algal oil into biodiesel, a renewable fuel source that can be used in your diesel powered automobiles.

Consult your manufactuer first, some car corporations do not support the use of bio-diesel fuel within their vehicles and will void the warranty if an engine is harmed by its use. Make sure to research this before buying a new vehicle with a diesel engine. For slightly older diesel cars and trucks there is no reason to stress, if the vehicle ran on petroleum diesel previously it will run on algae biodiesel also. Knowing this makes the choice to operate your vehicle on cleaner burning algal biodiesel much easier for you.

There is a minimal amount of materials needed to produce algae bioidiesel. You will need a growing medium for the algae, a press, water, methanol, lye and access to a biodiesel plant. You can put the biodiesel processor almost anyplace, although most people put them outside in a shed or under an garage overhang. You will be producing algae biofuel oil so setting up in the house may not be a real good idea.

The best bio-diesel plants are constructed to stop fumes and odors from getting out during the refining operation. Having an odorless refining process may be important for those wishing to produce their fuel near their home. If you reside on a farm or large plot of land this may not be as necessary as the bio-diesel plant can be positioned farther away from your residence. Of course if you’re able to afford to get a fully automated biodiesel system do so, just because they are very easy to use and will say you time.

If you have a large amount of algal oil from algae fish feed projects then a biodiesel plant will work perfectly to provide added value to your current operation. It does take more time to grow algal biomass and process the algae oil but the results are identical, a more eco friendly fuel which can be put into a diesel powered vehicle immediately. Moreover, once you start growing the algae they renew themselves every day so you will have an endless free supply of biofuel for your residence heating requirements and your vehicles.

The cost of fossil fuels is on an endless pricing trend upwards making algal biodiesel for private use is a smart decision for anyone. Having your own algae bio-diesel production plant and a constant flow of eco-friendly fuel right in your own backyard will make you energy independent and saves you and your family lots of money in the future.

No matter if you are in South Africa, Mumbai India or Malaysia everybody taken a good look at algae to be a possible renewable biomass crop for biofuel production.

One of the pioneers with the algae biofuel initiative happens to be David Sieg. This U.S. citizen started off his career in biofuels in a quite unlikely place, Vietnam.

He was there in 1995 the very same time President Clinton stated that the U.S. would begin to change diplomatic relations with Vietnam, breaking a 20-year stalemate. A relative of his spouse, was one of the rich farmers who could afford a tractor, but could not afford to buy fuel for it. One particular day David asked him how he managed to use his tractor without diesel fuel. The person revealed the tractor would run on vegetable oil, but wouldn’t start off on it. So, he used just a little bit of diesel to commence it, then switched over to vegetable oil. That had been David’s initial introduction to bio-fuels. No one had even heard of biofuels or bio-diesel in Vietnam at the time, and David has become a biofuels proponent since.

A couple of years afterwards he started instructing at a technological college in Vietnam. Individuals soon solicited him for his knowledge on biofuels. Back then he was merely a person whose spare-time activities included renewable energy. The school inquired if he could make a sufficient amount of biodiesel to operate their generators. Quickly after that project he was consulting on lots of biofuel related projects for local company owners who required their own fuel sources. Those projects led to utilizing numerous different kinds of oils, like catfish oil, palm oil, etc. And that research led him eventually to algae oil for biofuel manufacturing.

Since then David gone on to write quite a few books for the biofuels industry that feature algae biofuel as the major subject matter. What he desires to do at this point in his life is to show everyday people how they may grow to be totally energy independent, and do so in methods that doesn’t mean roughing it by reading by candlelight or eating meals out of cans.

His objective is for everybody to be able to live as comfortable as we are right now by re-directing their energies in diverse methods. He feels this could be done right now, not decades years into the future.

David writes his books for anyone who believes in thinking globally and acting locally, everyone who wants to make a difference inside the environment, anyone who believes that oil firms don’t have our very best interest at heart, anyone who desires to be energy independent.

In short, just about all people, sooner or later will recognize they too are part of the answer. So go green and produce algae bio-fuel to power your vehicles, David will reveal how.

A bill meant to give tax breaks to companies working on algae feedstocks-generated biofuel has been approved by the US House of Representatives. The Algae-based Renewable Fuel Promotion Act (HR 4168) was sponsored by New Mexico Congressman Harry Teague and has a corresponding bill in the Senate that was introduced by Senator Bill Nelson (D, Florida) which is awaiting action after being referred to the Senate Finance Committee.

Teague’s HR 4168 modifies the Internal Revenue Coded such that algae-based fuels can qualify for benefits now going to cellulosic biofuel makers. The bill includes a USD 1.01 per gal production tax credit and 50 per cent bonus depreciation for property employed to produce algae-based biofuel.
Congressman Harry Teague , D-NM.

The bill defines “algae-based biofuel” as “any liquid fuel which is produced from the biomass of an algal organism (in essence, an organism that is primarily aquatic and classified as a non-vascular plant),” according to the Congressional Research Service, Feedstuffs reports.

“The House sent an unmistakable message of bipartisan support to the hundreds of companies, scientists, entrepreneurs and government agencies working to accelerate the development of algae-based fuels, which will create jobs, decrease emissions and reduce our nation’s dependence on imported fossil fuels,” told Mary Rosenthal, executive director of the Algal Biomass Organisation (ABO) trade group, reports BrighterEnergy.org. “The passage of this bill is a huge first step towards our goal of creating parity for algae-based biofuels within the tax code and among various other government programmes.”

This bipartisan bill was not controversial and passed on the House “suspension calendar,” or with no objections and without a roll call vote this past week. It also received backing from Mary Bono Mack (R-CA), Dave Reichert (R-WA) and Brian Bilbray (R-CA), among others.

“Algae to produce green crude can be grown on non-arable land, in salt or brackish water and using carbon dioxide and sunlight as its primary feedstocks,” Teague’s statement said.

“Therefore, algae has not presented the same land use concerns as other biofuels and does not have any of the ‘food versus fuel’ implications that plague some other biofuels. Green crude derived from algae can be refined into drop-in transportation fuels, such as jet, gasoline and diesel, that are entirely compatible with existing infrastructure and engines. Algae can also be used to produce ethanol and biodiesel,” it noted.

His bill received endorsement from the Biotechnology Industry Organisation (BIO), ABO, the Southwestern Biofuels Association, Sapphire Energy, and Algenol Biofuels, Dairy Producers of New Mexico and Farm Credit Services Southwest plus various regional business, civic and economic development organisations in his district.

The bill passed at the start of this year’s Algal Biomass Summit in Phoenix, Arizona, earlier this week.

Within the final couple of years interest in Algae Biodiesel biofuels produced from algal mass have exploded onto the global stage. Indeed, some are even beginning to call 2010 the “Algae Evolution”. Really couple of organisms on the planet offer as much potential or have the capability to radically modify our lives as we know it.
Some speculate, that all life on earth originated from algae a 1 cell organism. It is clear that from the next several many years algae derived items stand to revolutionize the way we conduct our each day lives. Here are just a number of of the techniques whereby algae is going to modify the way in which we do things.
Algae provides us with algae biodiesel biofuels, Methane Biogas, Waste water sewage resolutions, Pharmaceuticals, Nutraceuticals for health food supplements, Natural fertilizer & a environmentally friendly source of affordable animal feed for a variety of cattle and more.
So why would you even want to consider growing algae to produce algae biodiesel? Algae grows incredibly fast, and this is a enjoyable project you can do in your backyard with tremendous reward. Consider growing your own feedstock to make biodiesel for your vehicles that you drive every day. Now consider what amount you spend every month on fuel for those vehicles? Now, you see this is a project that pays you back.
The types of materials you will need to get your algae pond project started are all off- the- shelf items such as, pond liners, covers, water, pvc pipe a full list is available in the instruction manual. If you are fortunate enough to have alot of land, then choose a sun-drenched area. Bear in mind you’ll need power at the location, so make sure that it really is a location where an extension cord or electrical line can be easily run.Once your site is chosen select the contour of the algae biofuel open pond. Many people feel the best design for the algae pond is definitely an oblong or one that is longer than it wide for ease of up keep and management.
When you have your design you can begin initial framework of your pond then reinforce the frame with pipe before introducing your liner. Once your liner is complete just tidy up any loose ends such as clipping any excess from the liner and finishing any final items such as electricity and fill up your pond with normal water.
Now you can inoculate your algae pond with a local or regional strain of algae from your area, or you can order a strain from algae providers who will ship you a ideal strain of algae. Remember if you’re producing algae to make biodiesel you will want algae with a relative high quantity of oil such a spirulina. You can have access to a great algae strain providers list here http://algaebiodieselinfo.com/about/
Once you inoculate your algae pond you will be able to start reaping the rewards and your algae will grow rapidly so you can extract the oils and make algae biofuel at home. The method for making biodiesel is incredibly simple and for even more information on making biodiesel at home just browse the Biodiesel 101 e-library http://www.70centsagallon.com/elibrary.html for additional information.

CABC (Consortium for Algal Biofuels Commercialization), SABC

(Sustainable Algal Biofuels Consortium, and Cellana, LLC

Consortium just received a large grant of twenty four million

dollars from the federal government in algae fuel research. Each

group has been designated specific tasks to tackle the obstacles

laid forth by algae’s ability to yield energy.
CABC, led by the University of California will focus on

developing algae as a hearty biofuel feedstock. Most of their

assignment will include the following:
• Investigating new ways to protect algae crops from

contamination and predation
• Algal Nutrient usage and recycling
• Developing genetic tools
They will be working closely with seven companies including

Sapphire Energy, General Atomics, and Sempra Energy, who are

also providing three million to finance research and

development.
SABC, led by Arizona State University, will pay close attention

to testing acceptability of these new biofuels as substitutes

for petroleum based fuels. Some of their duties will be to:
• Investigate biochemical conversion of algae to fuels
• Analyze properties of algal fuels and intermediates
Lastly, Cellana, led by Cellana (Shell and HR BioPetroleum) will

look at large scale production of feed and fuels from microalgae

matured in seawater. Their tasks will include the following:
• The assimilation of new harvest technologies with

“pilot-scale cultivation test beds”
• Development of marine microalgae as animal nourishment

for the industry of aquaculture
CABC will receive approximately nine million from the DOE, while

SABC and Cellana will get the remaining fifteen. Funding for

such research began back during the Jimmy Carter period, where

the former president invested nearly twenty five million into

algae fuel research. Funding and research was shelved

momentarily during the Clinton Administration, but has since

returned, with many fortune 500 (i.e. – Exon

Mobile) pouring money into R&D.
Despite the hault in algae fuel funding, Former President

Clinton along with close confidant Doug Band,

continues to invest into reducing the U.S. carbon footprint.

With alternative energy efforts like this, and that of the Fed

and Exon, we’re still on track towards optimum sustainability.
